Mike Dennis’ The Take had been on my Amazon wish list for a few weeks now, so I was glad to jump at the opportunity to get a free copy for review. I wasn’t disappointed.
Dennis is a great storyteller who avoids gimmicks and cliché in a noir novel about the danger of greed. Through well-developed characters—specifically Eddie Ryan and Felina—Dennis takes the reader on a grim journey from Houston to New Orleans, detailing desperation and a get-rich-quick adventure gone dangerously off course.
From the beginning to the punch-in-the-gut end, The Take is a fast-paced read that will leave you guessing, thinking and wanting more.
